Even when the men are fantasizing about their own wives: nothing, flatline, I was always left absolutely blank on anything beyond her appearance. The wide range of fantasies explored in this book will guide every reader to a provocative point, urging them to expand upon what turns them on …. I might have been able to finish it if it were around 200 pages, but at 472 pages, it just becomes tiresome and gross, regardless of the psychobabble explanations on the side. I try to keep an open mind, but that doesn't mean that I have to put up with more than I can, so understandably I skipped over some chapters (the amount of men fantasizing about doing their mothers or other female relatives is too damn high!

Men liking consensual, ecstatic sex doesn't have to be distorted into all this underlying "rage" stuff. My only reason for missing out on the five star mark is because I didn't manage to read the whole book as I was in a rush to lend it out and because not all of Miss Friday's psychoanalysis sounds believable, often I get the feeling she ought to have just written .Her approach is heavily psychoanalytic, relying on the primal conflicts the young boy faces in early life with mother and father for its explanatory power. While the focus of these questions relate to fantasies and are not specific to men, she responds to questions frequently asked to sexuality professionals. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Men in Love goes beyond the cliché of woman seen as either madonna or whore to reveal the conflict of love and rage at the centre of men's emotions. She has lost her ability to say no; has been unknowingly frozen into the position of an indulgent mother who allows the boy everything he wants. It is women controlling our own reproduction - not women talking themselves into having more sex in the name of "liberation" - that is where our power against patriarchy lies. The only ones who did were men in analysis, which already sets up a situation in which the result is going to be skewed if they are viewing their fantasies from the standpoint that there is something wrong with what they desire.Unfortunately, I couldn't get my guy to read this but I did manage to lend it out to a male friend and I'll be interested to hear his take on the book. Her explanations of the psychology of kinky practices were so bizarre at some points they were hard for me to wrap my head around. The wonderful part about the section where straight men fantasize about sex with men is that it shows two things at once--men who identify as straight and men who at the same time fantasize at times about sex with other men. Adult men being sexually attracted to and having sexual fantasies about girls below the age of majority, including pubescent girls. I have brought several more of Nancy Fridays books to read, you have to be a little open minded to read this as it is quite explicit at times.

She gave them a legitimate arena where they could share their "secret gardens" -- the hidden and forbidden but nonetheless real and true. There's the sexy, the sweet, the heartwarming, the imaginative, the crazy, the kinky, the deranged and the downright illegal in about 500 pages. It's true by her own admission that when she solicited stories she ended up receiving virtually no responses from gay men willing to tell their fantasies and secrets.
