I had two favorites in Part Two - Rat Island - where friends decide what is most important while the world is falling apart - justice or family.

He’s an international number one bestseller and his books are published in 50 languages, selling over 45 million copies around the world. Aunque a decir verdad, algunos podrían considerarse nouvelles o novelas cortas, como el relato que da nombre al libro o como "La isla de las ratas". I am finding that the more people talk about the idiosyncrasies of Harry Hole, the more I want to read about him!And then there is Benjamin, always the family's nerve center, perpetually on the lookout for triggers and trap doors in a volatile home where the children were left to fend for themselves, competing for their father's favor and their mother's elusive love. naglasak koji stavlja na likove koji su više možda zlikovci nego heroji i splet okolnosti koji ih je natjerao da to budu. I expected the stories here to be in a similar vein but surprisingly only one features a detective character.

On leave from his Harry Hole novels, Nesbø delivers stories ranging from dystopian visions to time-honored tales of duplicity and revenge. And none of them ended the way I expected to them…they are filled with great twists that really keep you guessing the entire time as to where it is heading, no matter how long each story is. The thing about business class is that the extra centimetres between the seats mean that with a slight effort of concentration it’s possible to persuade yourself that you are alone. Nesbo's boozy and brooding detective Harry Hole doesn’t appear, but frankly, he isn’t required, and a bit of rest and recovery probably won't do him any harm.

Euan Morton read The Earring and The Antidote, which was a twisty tale with tails and set partly in Botswana! But as the years have unfolded, Benjamin has grown increasingly untethered from reality, frozen in place while life carries on around him. One where a policeman specializes in finding the possible jealous link in any potential murder case. After all, you had just said you wanted to die, and had even given me a credible reason for saying it. I can’t tell you much about Nesbo’s previous short story collection Karusellmusikk – my Norwegian is not what it should be – but if this compendium of jealousy, greed, twists and violence is anything to go by, it's probably brilliant. Both those who perpetrate the crimes and those who try to stop them are eager for redemption, although it is never good enough when they get it. Part Two had a more dystopian feel to the stories and that isn’t really my thing, though I did like Cicadas of all the stories in this section. The "Jealousy" stories are more traditional Nesbo tales ,the flawed characters ,the clever twists and intriguing situations that are very much in "traditional thriller" country.

Things started off quite well for me, with “London”, a tight little tale of two strangers on a plane (and quite possibly my fave out of the entire book). I have to admit that I saw those two names and immediately bought the book, I should have slowed down and looked more closely. Toda la construcción de El hombre celoso estuvo bien hecha, pero como dije, era predecible y eso le quitaba un poco de potencia al final. The narrator, soon established as Elliot Chase, then zooms out to address the reader directly, introducing the players—most importantly movie star Lana Farrar. With Nesbø's characteristic gift for outstanding atmosphere and gut-wrenching revelations, The Jealousy Man confirms that he is at the peak of his abilities. We learn about Kate’s possibly stalling career and Leo’s plan to apply to acting schools against his mother’s wishes. Indeed, the novel does double duty as a survival manual, packed full of good advice—for instance, try not to get wounded, for “injury turns you from a giver to a taker. A single story about jealousy and one about power among stories on other themes would have worked better for me.
