They could've done literally ANYTHING with the 2nd half of the book but they went for the most drawn out overdone warrior cats tropes and scrapped almost all of the interesting concepts or reduced them to the minimum. The magic and mystery of Riverstar as a unique and slightly eccentric character has been completely wiped away with this book. There's a whole lot more needless love drama I didn't care to read about. A lot of this book (about 50%) is just downright recycled plot elements from Dawn of the Clans but this time from Riverstar's POV. Skystar is still the worst (nothing new there, I suppose). The book feels drawn-out and doesn't really get interesting until past the 50% point when we enter "new" territory with Riverstar going to aid his old parkmates and feeling torn between his homes. I loved Arc and the park cats. Like, I REALLY loved Arc’s character. He was, to me, by far the most interesting character in the story (except Night! Night appreciation please! The second female cat in Warriors to never take a mate, yay!). Why was Arc so interesting, you ask? Well, he was a developed, interesting cat who HELPED the clans but DIDN’T join them and had DIFFERENT beliefs and practices! What? Is this Warriors? Accidental Misnaming: When Finch is still learning about Clan life, she accidentally calls StarClan "StarryClan".

It builds on that, then the 2nd half of the book has Riverstar just up and leaves his Clan without solving this to go help cats he has absolutely nothing at all to do with. Just him tho. And all so the writers can do wat they should have done in Dawn of the Clans. Kill Slash and give Riverstar a mate. In this Super Edition, discover the origins of the first leader of RiverClan–a mysterious cat whose desire for peace would help shape the dawn of the warrior Clans. When a storm-tossed river sweeps Ripple away from the park he’s always known, he commits himself to the life of a peaceful loner. Still, as his new island home starts to become a sanctuary for other rogues, he can’t help but feel responsible for their safety, and for the community–and Clan–they are beginning to build. But when an old friend from the park resurfaces with terrible news just as the forest cats’ fights begin to escalate into bloodshed, the cat now known as Riverstar will have to decide which home he is truly committed to protecting: his new Clan or his old family. Shoutbox

You were our stepping stone. But you will be so much more. With this life, I give you a wise, nurturing heart so that you may support and encourage your Clan and, one day, your kits. This book was honestly a slog to get through and, in my opinion, rather boring. The vast majority of chapters felt less like exciting material to experience and more like obstacles to endure before the book got good—and even then, it didn't stay good. The following morning, they say farewell, and Riverstar and Drizzle set off… and then Finch wades into the river: she's changed her mind. The river's still a bit swollen, but they ride on the raft almost to the forest. They come upon some rapids upstream of the falls, however, which destroys the raft and nearly kills Drizzle. They know they have to go on foot from there, but at least they're close to the forest.

Most of the rogues who have joined the forest groups have given themselves two-word names to put their pasts behind them and fit in better with the group. River Ripple's cats Dawn, Moss, Pine, and Kite have chosen the names Dawn Mist, Moss Tail, Pine Needle, and Kite Wing. Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: Clear Sky starts to panic and grieve when he thinks that his friends have all betrayed him and left his mate to die. It takes Wind Runner raking her claws across his ears and telling him to sit up and stop acting like a kit to make him realize that they actually have a plan to save her. As River Ripple's narration says, Wind Runner isn't a cat to do things gently. Into the Wild & Fire and Ice • Forest of Secrets & Rising Storm • A Dangerous Path & The Darkest Hour • Midnight & Moonrise • Dawn & Starlight • Twilight & Sunset You have a kind soul. And I'm glad of it. The Clans need your gentleness and your wisdom. Are you ready to receive your nine lives?Into the Wild • Fire and Ice • Forest of Secrets • Rising Storm • A Dangerous Path • The Darkest Hour Now, I really am exited for Riverstar’s Home. There is only ONE, (Bonus Scene, at that) telling of his origin (It’s in Thunder Rising). It tells of a park, with Twolegs in it. The Twolegs then tear down the park, and Riverstar (Ripple, at the time), flees and finds himself in a river. He finds a log in the river, and floats along it for a while. He ends up in the forest, where he meets Night, a RiverClan member, and introduces himself with a new name, River Ripple, in thanks to the river that took him there.
